Frequently Asked Questions
I'm experiencing a technical issue with the TU Dortmund application system (e.g., I can't add to my cart). What should I do? ▼
If you encounter technical issues with application systems, it's best to first contact the university's student administration (Studienbüro) or the relevant department. You'll usually find 'FAQ' or 'Help' sections on the official website or application portal. Sending a detailed email explaining your problem, along with a screenshot, is the most effective method. If you're applying via uni-assist (a centralized application service for international students), you should contact uni-assist directly.
I received a conditional master's admission from TU Dortmund for German language. Which visa type should I choose for my visa application (40f/36f), and will my language proficiency (A2/IELTS) be sufficient? ▼
For conditional admission based on German language, one of the visa types under Section 17, Article 40f (Language Course and University Application) or Section 17, Article 36f (Language Course with University Admission) might be suitable. It's crucial to carefully review the details in your admission letter and the German Consulate's current visa guidelines to determine which visa type applies to you. A Goethe A2 and IELTS score might not be considered sufficient for a language-conditional admission visa by some consulates; a B1 level or higher is often required. To reduce the risk of visa rejection, it's advisable to obtain a B1 certificate. For the most current and accurate information, check the official website of the Consulate in Istanbul or contact them directly.
I've received master's admission for TU Dortmund. Which banks do you recommend for opening a blocked account (Sperrkonto)? ▼
For opening a blocked account (Sperrkonto) in Germany, online providers like Fintiba and Coracle, or traditional banks like Deutsche Bank, are popular options. Online providers generally offer a faster and more practical process. When choosing, it's beneficial to consider transaction fees, service quality, and user reviews. It's important to check the official pages for the most up-to-date information.
Can I get information about the Mechanical Engineering master's program at TU Dortmund? ▼
TU Dortmund's Mechanical Engineering (Maschinenbau) master's program offers a wide range of specializations and focuses on both theoretical knowledge and practical applications. You can find the most detailed and up-to-date information about the program's content, curriculum, application requirements, and language prerequisites on the official university website's relevant department page (Fakultät Maschinenbau). Additionally, the university's International Office can also assist you.
I've received admission from TU Dortmund. How long does it take for the visa to arrive after the visa appointment? ▼
The processing time for your visa after the appointment can vary significantly depending on the consulate's workload, the type of application, and the completeness of your documents. You can generally expect a waiting period of 4 to 12 weeks, but these times can be extended. Peak times, especially close to semester starts, often see increased processing times. To expedite your visa process, it's crucial to prepare all your documents completely and accurately. You can track current processing times on the websites of the consulate or iDATA.
Is it mandatory to make an appointment for residence registration (Anmeldung) at the Dortmund Foreigners' Office (Ausländerbehörde)? ▼
For residence registration (Anmeldung) at the Dortmund Foreigners' Office (Ausländerbehörde), you typically need to make an appointment. Going without an appointment can often lead to long waiting times or an inability to process your request. Appointment systems may operate online or by phone. The university's International Office usually guides students through this process and can provide information on how to book an appointment.
As a preparatory student at TU Dortmund, can I benefit from dorm facilities, or do you have recommendations for finding an apartment/WG in Dortmund? ▼
Even as a preparatory student, you generally have the right to use student dorms (Studentenwerk). However, dorm applications should usually be submitted early, as availability can be limited. For finding an apartment or shared flat (WG - Wohngemeinschaft) in Dortmund, you can use online platforms like WG-Gesucht.de, Immobilienscout24, or check the university's bulletin boards. Additionally, TU Dortmund's International Office and the student union (AStA) can offer support and advice on accommodation.
