Music Journalism and Music Education (Bachelor of Arts )Music Journalism and Music Education

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

How media work and how music appears in media is not only explored theoretically: Understanding how things work goes hand in hand with your own concert introductions or panel discussions, writing program booklet texts, reviews and features. Applied music journalism with a focus on "classical music" in radio, online, print and TV takes place primarily in the multimedia teaching editorial offices of terzwrk, the heart of the program. At the same time, journalistic and musicological seminars analyze products of artistic and cultural practice in historical, gender-related, and present-oriented terms. The proportion of independent study is high in order to promote independent engagement. A two-month journalistic internship is already included in the Bachelor's degree program. This allows students to test and implement the skills they have learned at the university in practice ("training on the job"). In addition to deepening research and production skills, students also learn journalistic craft skills (editing technique, layout, etc.). At the same time, teamwork and critical faculties as well as the typical work under high time and success pressure are trained.
