Philosophy and Political Science

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The M.A. in Philosophy and Political Science (MAPP) brings philosophical and political science perspectives together systematically and fosters networked global thinking and intercultural understanding. Students tackle social problems from an interdisciplinary approach. Both disciplines – philosophy and political science – are brought together in tutorials in the form of "team teaching". MAPP students have the opportunity to draft and analyze research questions by themselves as well as in project groups and to arrive at new insights in the process. These core skills are needed, for example, for doctoral studies, for which the MAPP program is an ideal preparation. Society-oriented research competence also includes a strong practical focus: The aim is for research and practice to complement each other. Apart from team teaching, two other features make the MAPP program special: Firstly, students work closely together in particularly small groups in order to ensure they receive individual support and supervision. A mentoring program, in which more advanced students are responsible for the personal supervision of newer ones, allows for an ideal start to the program. Secondly, students are prepared for their further careers, e.g., through courses in research and project management and extensive phases of practical training, which open first doors to the world of work or integrate students in research projects at the Institute.
