Question 1

What is a uni-assist VPD and what is it for?

Accepted Answer

A VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation) is an evaluation document in which uni-assist checks your foreign certificates, converts your grade to the German scale and issues the result for one specific university. You only need it if that university has told uni-assist to use the VPD procedure, and it is not an admission.
#What does a VPD contain?

Which certificates you submitted
How uni-assist evaluates them
Your grade converted to the German system (modified Bavarian formula)

#Who needs one?

Not every German university works with uni-assist. There are about 150–160 member universities, and each decides which courses and applicants uni-assist handles.
A VPD is issued for the university you chose and is valid for one year from the date of issue.

#How the process works

Create your application in My assist and upload scans of your official certificates in the original language, plus a certified German or English translation. Everything is digital; nothing is posted to uni-assist.
Pay the fee: 75 € for the first course in a semester, 30 € for each additional course in the same semester, charged regardless of the result.
Processing usually takes 4–6 weeks. The VPD arrives in "My Inbox" in My assist.
Apply directly to the university before its deadline and submit the VPD there. The university makes the admission decision.

Question 2

How much is the uni-assist fee for a VPD and for additional applications?

Accepted Answer

uni-assist charges a handling fee of EUR 75 for your first chosen study course in a semester and EUR 30 for each additional course in the same semester. According to uni-assist, the costs are the same for standard and VPD applications.
#Good to know

The fee is charged regardless of the result of the evaluation.
The fee is per semester: the 75 + 30 calculation applies to courses chosen in the same semester.
A VPD is issued specifically for the university you apply to and, according to uni-assist, is valid for one year from its date of issue.
Some universities charge their own application fee on top; check the university's website.

#Example
Three courses via uni-assist in the same semester: EUR 75 + 2 × EUR 30 = EUR 135.
#Payment
uni-assist states that fees can be paid by bank transfer or credit card (3D Secure, Visa/Mastercard). For current instructions, use uni-assist's official payment page.

Question 3

How does uni-assist calculate your HZB grade?

Accepted Answer

uni-assist converts a foreign school grade to the German scale with the modified Bavarian formula: X = 1 + 3 × (Nmax − Nd) / (Nmax − Nmin). You do not choose Nmax and Nmin; they come from the ZAB assessment published in anabin.
#What the values mean

Nd: your grade
Nmax: the best possible grade in your certificate's grading system
Nmin: the lowest pass grade in that system
X: the German grade; the formula gives a result between 1.0 (best) and 4.0.

#Rules that matter

The result is taken to one decimal place and not rounded (it is truncated).
uni-assist converts the grade as part of its evaluation; in the VPD procedure, the converted grade appears on your VPD.
If you have to attend a Studienkolleg and pass the Feststellungsprüfung, your overall grade is the mean of your foreign grade and your Feststellungsprüfung grade.
Don't guess which values apply to Turkish certificates; the anabin data and uni-assist's evaluation are decisive.

#HZB grade is not your bachelor's GPA
The HZB grade belongs to your higher-education entrance qualification (school-leaving level), not to a bachelor's degree. For master's applications, the university assesses your degree and grade itself. Which grade a course accepts is also up to the university.

Question 4

What should I do if my application via uni-assist is rejected?

Accepted Answer

First work out who said no: uni-assist only checks formal criteria, while admission or rejection is decided by the university. What you can do depends on which it was.
#If uni-assist's evaluation is negative

Status "Faulty" means your application does not meet all of the university's criteria, so uni-assist cannot forward it.
You can upload missing documents in My assist before the university's application deadline; re-processing usually takes 4–6 weeks, so act early.
Once the deadline has passed, the application cannot be forwarded this semester; you reapply for a later semester and pay the fees again.
Fees are charged regardless of the result and are not refunded after a negative evaluation (75 € for the first course, 30 € for each additional course in the same semester).

#If you think the evaluation is wrong
Under uni-assist's terms, errors in the evaluation result must be reported to uni-assist by post or via the contact form on its website within 14 calendar days of receiving it.
#If the university rejected you
That is the university's decision, not uni-assist's. How and by when you can challenge it is stated in the university's decision letter — follow those instructions.

Question 5

What is the relationship and order between APS and uni-assist?

Accepted Answer

If your certificates were issued in Türkiye, you do not need APS. APS only exists for certificates from China, Vietnam and India; if you hold such certificates, the order is APS certificate first, then your application to uni-assist (or the university).
#What APS is
A joint institution of the German Embassy and the DAAD. It checks the authenticity of educational certificates from China, Vietnam and India and issues a certificate if the result is positive. For applicants with certificates from these countries, the APS certificate is a requirement for applying to a German university.
#Where the certificate comes from matters, not citizenship

Turkish citizen with a school or university certificate from China, Vietnam or India → that country's APS check may apply.
Certificates from Türkiye → no APS. uni-assist's Türkiye page lists documents such as the Lise Diploması and the YKS placement result, but no APS certificate.

#When uni-assist comes in
uni-assist is not mandatory for everyone; you use it only if your chosen university handles applications through uni-assist. Otherwise you apply directly to the university.
#Keep in mind
The APS check replaces neither the university's admission decision nor the visa decision; admission is decided by the university.

Question 6

Can you apply for DoSV programmes via uni-assist?

Accepted Answer

Yes — but only if the DoSV university works with uni-assist. You register in the DoSV portal at hochschulstart.de and apply through uni-assist; there is no "get a VPD first, then apply at hochschulstart" sequence.
#What DoSV is
A coordination procedure run by the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung for locally restricted (and occasionally unrestricted) undergraduate programmes. Not every programme with an NC takes part; the course search in the DoSV portal shows which ones do.
#Steps with uni-assist

Register in the DoSV portal and note your BID and BAN.
Create your application in My assist and enter BID/BAN — without them uni-assist cannot forward it.
uni-assist forwards positively evaluated applications electronically; the university decides on admission.
You set priorities and accept offers in your hochschulstart account.

#Watch out

Some DoSV universities do not use uni-assist; then you always apply via the university itself.
For medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, applicants who are not EU citizens and have no German school-leaving qualification apply directly to the universities, not through the central procedure.
The DoSV application phase ends on 15 July (winter) and 15 January (summer), but this is not a single deadline for everyone — universities set their own. uni-assist recommends applying at least 8 weeks before the university's deadline.

Question 7

After receiving your VPD, do you still need to apply directly to the university?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A VPD is an evaluation, not an application: once you have it, you must apply directly to the university through its own application route before its deadline and submit the VPD there. The VPD itself is not an admission; the university decides.
#Step by step

Check the university's application page to see whether it uses the VPD procedure.
In My assist, request a VPD for that university and upload scans of your official certificates (original language plus a certified German or English translation).
Pay the fee: 75 € for the first course in a semester, 30 € for each additional course in the same semester.
The VPD usually arrives in "My Inbox" in My assist within 4–6 weeks.
Apply the way the university specifies (often its own online portal) and attach the VPD. Whether further documents are needed is up to the university.

#Points to watch

A VPD is issued for one specific university; you cannot use it to apply elsewhere.
It is valid for one year from the date of issue.
uni-assist's deadline is the university's deadline. Start early so the VPD arrives in time for your direct application.
Not every university uses uni-assist; some handle all applications themselves. Only the university's own application information tells you which route applies.

Question 8

Are apostilled documents necessary for the Uni-Assist application?

Accepted Answer

Question 9

Does the diploma translation for Uni-Assist need to be certified?

Accepted Answer

Question 10

Is there a validity period for the VPD?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A VPD is valid for one year from its date of issue. It is also issued specifically for the university you chose, so you apply for a separate VPD for each university.
#What a VPD is and when you need one
A VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation) is only needed where the university has told uni-assist to use the VPD procedure. It records which certificates you submitted, how uni-assist evaluated them and your grade converted to the German scale. You receive it in My assist under "My Inbox".
#Key points

Validity: one year from the date of issue.
University-specific: one VPD does not work for every university.
Not an admission: after receiving the VPD you still have to apply directly to the university before its deadline and submit the VPD there. The university decides.
Fees: €75 for the first course in a semester and €30 for each additional course in the same semester. The fees are the same as for a standard application and are charged regardless of the result.

#If the year has passed
You will need a new VPD for that university. Processing usually takes 4–6 weeks, so apply well before the university's deadline.

Question 11

Is a transcript translation mandatory when applying via Uni-Assist?

Accepted Answer

Question 12

What are the most common reasons for uni-assist rejections?

Accepted Answer

uni-assist does not publish statistics on the most common rejection reasons, but the rules show where a negative result can come from: missing documents, an entrance qualification (HZB) that does not fit the chosen subject, and process mistakes. The admission decision is always the university's.
#1. Documents

Certificates not uploaded in the original language together with a certified German or English translation.
For Turkish school leavers: the Lise Diploması uploaded without the YKS placement page (university, faculty, score type).

#2. HZB does not match the subject

The school certificate alone is not enough. A 12-year general Lise plus a YKS score above 180 in SAY, SÖZ, EA or DİL plus placement in a Lisans programme of at least 4 years at a faculty gives subject-restricted access to the placed subject and related subjects. Applying for an unrelated subject can fail; the university decides what counts as related.
Placement at a Yüksekokul gives access to Fachhochschulen only.
According to the DAAD admission database, a Lise graduate without the YKS, or with only a TYT result, cannot be admitted.

#3. Process

The uni-assist deadline is the university's deadline; late applications may not be processed.
A VPD is not an admission: without the direct application to the university afterwards, nothing is complete.
Fees (€75 for the first course, €30 for each additional course in the same semester) are charged regardless of the result.

Question 13

Can I apply for a uni-assist VPD before finishing my bachelor's degree?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the university: it decides whether it accepts an application with a transcript or a certificate of expected graduation before you graduate. There is no single Germany-wide rule.
#First check: do you need a VPD at all?

Not every university uses uni-assist. A VPD is needed only where the university has instructed uni-assist to use the VPD procedure.
A VPD records which certificates you submitted, how uni-assist evaluated them and your converted German grade. It is issued for the specific university you chose and is valid for one year.

#Applying before graduation

Check the programme's application page: are applications before graduation allowed, and which document does it want?
Upload your documents digitally in My assist — nothing is posted to uni-assist. Certificates are required in the original language plus a certified German or English translation.
Fees: 75 € for the first programme in a semester and 30 € for each additional programme in the same semester, charged regardless of the result.

#Remember

A VPD is not an admission. After you receive it, you must still apply to the university directly before its deadline.
When and how you submit your final degree certificate is also set by the university.

Question 14

What should I do if my uni-assist payment fails?

Accepted Answer

First check the payment status in your My assist account and use only uni-assist's official payment instructions. If the payment does not show up, send your payment slip through uni-assist's official contact form.
#Steps

Check the status: see in My assist whether your payment has been recorded.
Use the official route: uni-assist states that you can pay by bank transfer or credit card (3D Secure, Visa/Mastercard). Take bank details and your payment reference only from your own My assist account or uni-assist's official website.
Waiting time: according to uni-assist, international transfers can take up to two weeks. If you have been waiting more than two weeks for the confirmation, send a copy of your payment slip via uni-assist's contact form; uni-assist will check whether the payment arrived.
Card declined: ask your bank whether your card is enabled for international and 3D Secure payments, or pay by bank transfer instead.

#Safety warning
Do not send money to bank details (IBAN, SWIFT/BIC) copied from forums, old guides or older versions of this page. The correct details are always in uni-assist's official channels.
Official page: uni-assist — payment options

Question 15

How do you update your uni-assist account (My assist)?

Accepted Answer

uni-assist's account is now called "My assist": you correct your personal details yourself in the account area and upload new documents in the same portal. A change in your details does not require a new application form.
#What you can do in My assist

Create and manage applications, track their status
Upload documents, submit TestAS results
Pay the handling fee (after submitting online)
Contact uni-assist
Evaluation results and the VPD arrive in "My inbox".

#Updating documents

According to uni-assist's FAQ, files must be PDFs of up to 10 MB each.
Once a document has been processed you cannot delete it; upload a newer version, which is used when your documents are processed again.
Missing documents must be uploaded before the university's application deadline. Re-processing usually takes 4–6 weeks.

#Fees at a glance
75 € for the first course in a semester, 30 € for each additional course in the same semester; charged regardless of the result.
#Tracking status
uni-assist does not grant admission; the status in your account only reflects the evaluation, and the university decides on admission.

Question 16

Do I need to send my uni-assist documents by post?

Accepted Answer

No. The uni-assist application is fully digital: you upload scans of your official certificates in My assist, and nothing is posted to uni-assist. You do not need to send originals, certified paper copies or a courier package.
#What to upload

Scans of your official certificates in the original language (for Turkish applicants, e.g. the Lise Diploması, the YKS placement page and transcripts)
A certified translation into German or English
The exact documents depend on your country and course; for Türkiye, see uni-assist's country page.

#Enrolment can be different

After admission, some universities may ask for certified copies when you enrol. This is university-specific; your admission letter and the university's enrolment information tell you what is needed.
That request comes from the university, not from uni-assist.

#Practical tips

Make sure scans are legible and complete, including every page.
Track your application in My assist. Processing usually takes 4–6 weeks; current times are published on the uni-assist website.
uni-assist's deadline is the university's deadline, so don't leave uploads to the last day.

Question 17

Can you make parallel university applications with uni-assist?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In the same semester you can apply for several programmes via uni-assist: 75 € for the first programme and 30 € for each additional one. But not every university uses uni-assist, and each application is assessed separately.
#How it works

You upload your documents digitally in My assist; nothing is posted to uni-assist.
This route only covers uni-assist member universities (about 150–160), and each university decides which programmes run through uni-assist. For the others you apply directly.
The fees are the same for standard and VPD applications and are charged regardless of the result.

#A separate VPD for each university

A VPD is issued for the specific university you chose — one VPD does not work everywhere. You apply for one per university.
After receiving it, you must still apply directly to each university before its own deadline. A VPD is not an admission; each university makes its own decision.

#Tips

Track every deadline separately: the uni-assist deadline is the respective university's deadline.
Admission requirements (grade, language, subject fit) vary by programme; there is no Germany-wide NC or grade threshold.

Question 18

What is the grade difference between Uni-Assist VPD 1.0 and 4.0?

Accepted Answer

Question 19

When is the uni-assist deadline for the winter semester?

Accepted Answer

There is no single uni-assist deadline for the winter semester: your uni-assist deadline is the deadline of the university you are applying to. No rule such as "15 July for everyone" applies, so check each university's own page.
#How to find the date

Not every German university uses uni-assist; there are roughly 150–160 member universities. Each university decides which courses and applicants uni-assist handles.
Check uni-assist's list of member universities first, then the application page for your course at the university.

#Why you should apply early

Processing at uni-assist usually takes 4–6 weeks; current processing times are published on the uni-assist website.
The application is fully digital: you upload scans of your official certificates in My assist and do not post anything to uni-assist. Upload them in the original language plus a certified German or English translation.
If the university uses the VPD procedure, you still have to apply directly to the university before its deadline once you have the VPD. Plan for that step too.

#In short
Get the deadline from the university and apply several weeks ahead, allowing for processing time and, where relevant, the direct application after the VPD.

Question 20

What is a Zulassungsbescheid and how is it different from a VPD?

Accepted Answer

A Zulassungsbescheid is the university's admission decision (your admission letter) — it is not a "pre-approval". A VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation) is a preliminary review document that uni-assist issues for applications to universities that use the VPD procedure; it is not an admission.
#VPD

uni-assist documents which certificates you submitted, how it evaluates them and how your grade translates into the German grading system.
It is only needed for universities that have instructed uni-assist to use the VPD procedure; not every university asks for one.
It is issued specifically for the university you apply to.
After you receive it, you still have to apply directly to the university and submit the VPD before the university's deadline.

#Zulassungsbescheid

It is issued by the university after examining your application; uni-assist does not decide on admission.
It can be conditional (for example on a language requirement); the conditions for final enrolment are stated in the decision.

#Order of steps

Check the university's application route: direct, via uni-assist, or the VPD procedure.
For the VPD procedure, get the VPD from uni-assist first, then apply to the university.
The university assesses your application and sends its decision (Zulassungsbescheid or rejection).

Question 21

What documents do you need to enrol at a university in Germany?

Accepted Answer

Enrolment (Immatrikulation) is a separate step from applying: it comes after admission, and your admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid) tells you which documents are needed and by when. There is no single national checklist; each university sets its own.
#Commonly required

Enrolment application (usually completed online and signed)
Admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid)
Valid passport / ID
Health-insurance status: by law (§ 199a SGB V) you must prove before enrolment that you are insured, exempt or not subject to statutory insurance. A statutory health insurer sends this notification to the university electronically; a paper certificate or travel insurance is not accepted, for example at FU Berlin.
Proof of payment of the semester fee (Semesterbeitrag) — the amount varies by university
Certificates in the form the university asks for (originals or certified copies, translations; a VPD for foreign certificates where required) and language certificates

#Examples
Universities such as FU Berlin and LMU München publish their lists on their enrolment pages; LMU, for example, also asks for anything named in the admission letter.
#Do not confuse it with the application
School certificates, transcripts and language certificates are mainly application documents; at enrolment, the originals or certified copies are often checked.

Question 22

When are the application deadlines for bachelor's programs in Germany for the winter semester?

Accepted Answer

For bachelor's programs in Germany, applications for the winter semester generally open during the summer months, typically between May and July. However, the exact application deadline can vary significantly depending on the specific university, the program you're applying to, and whether you're using a central application system like uni-assist (a service that evaluates international student applications for many German universities) or Hochschulstart. Always verify the precise dates on the official website of the university you plan to apply to.

Question 23

Do documents obtained from e-devlet need notarization and apostille for applications in Germany?

Accepted Answer

For documents obtained through Turkey's e-devlet system to be considered valid for official applications in Germany (like for visas, universities, or degree recognition), you'll typically need a sworn translation, notarization, and sometimes an apostille. It's really important to confirm the exact requirements for each document directly with the institution you're applying to – whether it's a consulate, university, or the foreigners' office (Ausländerbehörde).

Question 24

Can you transfer university credits to Germany from a non-EU country?

Accepted Answer

There is no automatic transfer, but there is a route: you apply for admission to a German university (first or a higher Fachsemester) and separately apply for your previous courses to be credited (Anrechnung). The university — usually its examination board — decides, not ZAB.
#Two separate steps

Admission: your higher-education entrance qualification (HZB) and the programme's requirements are checked as in any application.
Anrechnung (credit recognition): on application, the university decides which courses count. There is no automatic ECTS conversion.

#Lisbon Recognition Convention
Study periods completed in a state party to the convention are recognised unless the university can show a substantial difference; the burden of proof lies with the university, refusals must be justified and can be appealed. According to the ENIC-NARIC listing, Türkiye is among these states. Details are set in Land law and the programme's Prüfungsordnung.
#Starting in a higher semester
You need enough creditable achievements (at least one semester) and a free place — places are usually filled by students moving up from the previous semester. Example (FU Berlin): you send your course list to the subject advisory service, receive an Einstufungsprognose, and need an Einstufungsbescheid to enrol. Language courses are not credited.
A higher-semester place is not guaranteed, so contact the programme's advisers early.

Question 25

How long does it take for uni-assist to process a VPD document?

Accepted Answer

The time it takes for uni-assist to prepare your VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation) document can vary significantly based on the application volume and the specific time of year. While it typically takes a few weeks, expect longer processing times during peak application periods. Always check the official uni-assist website for the most current waiting times.

Question 26

Which documents need to be translated for university applications through **uni-assist**?

Accepted Answer

For uni-assist applications, you'll typically need certified translations of your core educational documents, such as your high school diploma, high school transcript, and your ÖSYM placement document (if applicable from Turkey). However, depending on the university and program you're applying to, additional documents like language certificates or internship records might also require translation. Always check the current requirements of both uni-assist and your target university before you apply.

Question 27

Where should I start when planning to study in Germany?

Accepted Answer

The first step to study in Germany is to research the admission requirements and application processes for German universities. Applications are typically submitted through uni-assist (a centralized application service) or directly to the universities. You'll find different requirements for Bachelor's or Master's programs, such as language proficiency, diploma recognition, and financial proof. For comprehensive information, we recommend checking the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) website and the individual university websites.

Question 28

How can you verify a student's university enrollment in Germany?

Accepted Answer

As a third party, you cannot directly verify a student's university enrollment in Germany. The student themselves can provide proof of their enrollment by showing you their Studienbescheinigung (enrollment certificate) or their transcript.

Question 29

How do I send my YKS placement document to universities in Germany?

Accepted Answer

Official documents from Turkey, like your YKS placement document, are usually sent to German universities either through uni-assist (a centralized application service for international students) or directly as specified by the university. You might need notarized copies and German translations done by a sworn translator. Since each university and program has its own specific document submission procedures, you should always check the current information on the website of the institution you're applying to.

Question 30

What are the admission requirements to study in Germany?

Accepted Answer

You need a higher-education entrance qualification (HZB) recognised in Germany, plus the language and any programme-specific requirements set by the university. Each university defines the exact rules for its own programmes.
#1. Entrance qualification (HZB)
For Turkish applicants, the Lise Diploması alone is not enough; anabin assesses it together with the YKS result and placement:

General Lise, more than 180 points in SAY, SÖZ, EA or DİL, and placement in a Lisans programme of at least 4 years at a faculty: direct, subject-restricted access without a Studienkolleg.
Meslek Lisesi with more than 180 points: subject-oriented Studienkolleg, then the Feststellungsprüfung.
Completed Önlisans with more than 150 TYT points: direct access to your previous field and related subjects.
Completed Lisans of at least 4 years: access to all subjects.

Without placement there is no general route; the university or the Land authority decides.
#2. Language
Which language and which level you need depends on the programme's language of instruction and is set by the university. Admission to a Studienkolleg requires proof of German.
#3. How to apply

Not every university uses uni-assist. Where it does, the fee is 75 € for the first programme and 30 € for each additional one in the same semester.
Some universities require a VPD. A VPD is not an admission; you still apply to the university before its deadline.

#4. Programme-specific requirements
Check grades, prior knowledge and documents on the programme page.

Question 31

Does my ÖSYM university placement document expire for German university applications?

Accepted Answer

Official sources publish no validity period for it — but there is no official rule saying its age never matters either. Whether an older result is accepted is something to confirm with your university or uni-assist.
#What is required
uni-assist asks Lise Diploması holders for the second part of the YKS/ÖSYM result, the Yerleştirme Sonuçları: it must show that you were placed at a university in Türkiye, with the name of the university, the faculty and the points type. For access to higher education in Germany, what counts is the points type, the threshold and the placement.
#What is known about validity

uni-assist's Türkiye page states no expiry date or exam-year limit for this document.
anabin/KMK and ÖSYM do not publish a validity period for applications abroad either.
ÖSYM no longer prints or mails a placement result document; you retrieve the result online. For translations, uni-assist accepts a sworn translator (yeminli tercüman) in Türkiye.

#What to do
If your result is several years old, ask the university or uni-assist in writing before applying whether they accept an older placement result. The university makes the final decision.

Question 32

How do extracurricular activities like volunteering or sports affect university applications in Germany?

Accepted Answer

There is no general rule on how volunteering or sports affect applications in Germany: each program's admission and selection rules decide whether they count at all. Such activities never replace the program's admission requirements.
#What comes first

Bachelor's: you first need a higher education entrance qualification (HZB). A Turkish Lise Diploması alone is not enough; the YKS result and placement are assessed as well.
Master's: each program sets its own requirements, such as subject fit of your bachelor's, grade, language proof and documents.
In programs with restricted admission (NC), applicants are ranked according to the program's selection rules.

#When activities can help

If the selection rules assess relevant experience or motivation, describe yours briefly and concretely in the requested document.
An activity or certificate the program does not ask for earns no automatic points.

#Practical tip

Read the program's admission and selection regulations (e.g. Zulassungsordnung).
If in doubt, ask the international office. The university makes the final decision.

Question 33

Can you apply to study in Germany without completing your first year of university in Turkey?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you have a general Lise diploma and were placed in a Lisans programme of at least 4 years at a faculty with more than 180 YKS points, you can apply directly without studying in Türkiye at all. The idea that everyone must first complete a year at a Turkish university is wrong; it depends on your school type and placement.
#Direct application without prior study

12-year general Lise, more than 180 points in SAY, SÖZ, EA or DİL, and placement at a faculty: direct access to the placed subject and related subjects, no Studienkolleg. You don't even have to enrol in Türkiye.
Same, but placed at a university-affiliated Yüksekokul: direct access to Fachhochschulen only.

#When a year of study makes a difference

Meslek Lisesi with more than 180 points: normally a subject-oriented Studienkolleg. After one successful year of Lisans study in Türkiye, direct subject-restricted access instead.
Only one year at a 2-year MYO without a diploma: Studienkolleg route for Fachhochschulen only.
Lisans at an Açıköğretim faculty: direct access requires two successful years.

#If you have no placement
Official sources define no general route. According to the DAAD admission database, a Lise graduate who did not take the YKS, or only has a TYT result, cannot be admitted. A score without placement gives no automatic admission and no automatic Studienkolleg; the university or the Land authority decides.
For uni-assist you upload the Lise Diploması and the YKS placement page (university, faculty, score type). The final decision rests with the university.

Question 34

Should I upload my associate degree documents when applying for a bachelor's in Germany?

Accepted Answer

When applying for a bachelor's degree in Germany, you are generally expected to upload all relevant documents from your previous educational background, including your associate degree diplomas and transcripts. This is crucial for a complete evaluation of your academic history. Always check the specific requirements of the university you're applying to or uni-assist (a service that pre-screens international applications for many German universities).

Question 35

When do application deadlines for universities in Germany usually start?

Accepted Answer

University application deadlines in Germany vary depending on the university and the semester. Generally, applications for the winter semester are open from May to July, and for the summer semester, they run from November to January. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, you should check the website of the specific university you're interested in or the uni-assist portal.

Question 36

When are application results announced when applying with a VPD?

Accepted Answer

There is no fixed date: uni-assist usually issues the VPD itself within 4–6 weeks, but the admission decision comes from the university, which also decides when to announce it. A VPD is not an admission.
#Two separate stages

uni-assist evaluation: uni-assist checks your certificates, converts your grade to the German scale and delivers the VPD to "My Inbox" in My assist. This usually takes 4–6 weeks; uni-assist publishes current processing times on its website.
University application: once you have the VPD, you must apply directly to the university before its deadline and submit the VPD there. The admission or rejection comes from the university at this stage.

#Where to follow your result

Track the VPD status in My assist, and the admission decision in the university's application portal or correspondence.
Each university sets its own decision timeline and way of notifying applicants; there is no period that applies everywhere. Check the programme's application page or ask the admissions office.

#Keep in mind

A VPD is issued only for the university you chose and is valid for one year from the date of issue.
The VPD does not replace the application — without a separate application to the university, there is no admission decision.

Question 37

Are translations done by sworn translators in Turkey accepted in Germany?

Accepted Answer

Institutions in Germany typically require documents to be translated by sworn translators in Germany. Whether translations done in Turkey will be accepted depends on the specific requirements of the institution you're applying to. It's crucial to contact the institution directly beforehand to confirm their policy.

Question 38

Do you need a separate uni-assist VPD for each university application?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A VPD is issued specifically for the university you chose, so you request a separate VPD from uni-assist for every university that asks for one. One VPD cannot be reused for other universities.
#Why one per university?

Only universities that have instructed uni-assist to use the VPD procedure ask for it. The evaluation follows that university's instruction, and the document is issued for that university.
Each VPD is valid for one year from the date of issue.

#What it costs

First course in a semester: 75 €
Each additional course in the same semester: 30 €
The fees are the same for standard and VPD applications and are charged regardless of the result.

#What to do in practice

Check on each university's application page and in uni-assist's list of member universities whether it uses uni-assist and whether it wants a VPD.
In My assist, request a VPD for each university that requires one. Your certificates are uploaded digitally.
Submit each VPD with your direct application to the matching university before that university's deadline.

A VPD is not an admission: every university makes its own decision.

Question 39

Can I be rejected from a program without a Numerus Clausus (NC)?

Accepted Answer

If you apply to an undergraduate program that doesn't have a Numerus Clausus (NC) – meaning there's no fixed limit on student numbers – you'll usually get accepted as long as your school certificate is equivalent to the German Abitur and you meet all other entry requirements, like having the necessary language certificates. Just remember, getting accepted doesn't guarantee you'll graduate; some programs, even those without an NC, can have a high dropout rate in the first few semesters.
