Short answer: which route is there if your German is not good enough?
TU Braunschweig's language centre runs fee-based preparatory German courses (Studienvorbereitende Deutschkurse) from A1 to C1, plus TestDaF preparation. The official page is explicit:
- The application confirmation (Bewerbungsbestätigung) for these courses is not an admission and not a conditional admission.
- Course participants are not enrolled as students of the university.
- While attending a B2 course you can submit a regular application for a degree programme.
One programme exception: the bilingual Sustainable Engineering of Products and Processes (B.Sc.) admits students with at least A2 German; the language requirement (DSH-1 or TestDaF 4x3) must be met by the end of the third semester.
Universities that do offer conditional admission are listed in our comparison.
Language requirement and accepted certificates
Accepted certificates: TestDaF with 4 in every section, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, DSH-2, DSD II, Goethe-Zertifikat C2 and the Feststellungsprüfung. The certificate is due by the application deadline. For admission-free programmes, it is enough to show that you are attending at least a B2 course when you apply; according to the official page, however, enrolment is not possible without the certificate.
