About the Program

Academic Content This Summer School offers international students an engaging introduction to one of the most relevant challenges of modern industry: designing sustainable and circular production systems. The programme combines academic insights from RWTH Aachen University with hands-on learning experiences and provides a solid foundation in sustainability concepts tailored to students at an early stage of their academic journey. Participants explore key topics such as sustainable manufacturing processes, resource and energy efficiency, circular economy strategies, life cycle assessment, and digital technologies enabling sustainable production. This course is designed to guide students through the fundamentals of sustainable and circular production, using practical tools such as Life Cycle Assessment, Hot Spot Analysis and Design Thinking. Through interactive lectures, case studies, group work, and industrial use cases, students gain practical insights into how sustainability principles are applied in real-world production environments. In the following weeks, there will be a lot of social events to support the instruction and the course-related activities. At these events, you can get to know the other participants, our beautiful city of Aachen, and the places in the surrounding area. Then during the last days of your stay, you will take a final exam to earn your certificate. On the weekends and after the farewell event, you can take advantage of the short travel distances and discover more of Germany and Europe on your own or with your new friends!
