About the Program

The international master's degree programme taught in English trains students in the foundations and applications of sport and exercise psychology in elite, recreational and health sports. The programme opens up career opportunities in a variety of sport-relevant contexts (e.g. sport clubs, sport federations, schools, companies) and with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. athletes, coaches, officials). The programme examines basic research in various fields (motivation, volition, emotion, cognition) to develop sport and exercise psychological theories and methods. Sport psychology focuses on improving performance in competitive sport, school sport and health areas, while exercise psychology deals with health promotion, physical activity for well-being, and behavioral change strategies. Students acquire expertise to plan and conduct studies, formulate practical recommendations, lead sport psychology consulting processes, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. This is a double-degree programme where students can acquire degrees from both Leipzig University and the University of Thessaly in Trikala, Greece. The programme consists of 120 ECTS credits and can be completed as either full-time or part-time study.
