About the Program

Computational Social Science (CSS) combines computer-based methods of data collection and analysis from computer science with topics, questions, and ways of thinking from psychology or sociology. In the CSS program at the University of Koblenz, computer science and social sciences form a true balance: students dive equally deep into both areas and learn to bridge the gap between the disciplines. Students learn to collect and combine digital behavioral data from people (e.g., online data, sensor data, etc.) using computer science methods and find patterns in them. At the same time, they acquire the psychological or sociological understanding to interpret these patterns and learn the data protection and ethical foundations to draw responsible conclusions from their acquired knowledge.
