About the Program

Scandinavian Studies is studied as a subject module and can be combined with all other B.A. subject modules. In Scandinavian Studies, you acquire high competence in your chosen Scandinavian language, enabling you to use it confidently in general linguistic oral and written communication situations. In addition to intensive training in the primary Scandinavian language, a second Scandinavian language is also learned to a lesser extent. You acquire Scandinavia-specific knowledge in linguistics and literary studies, both in their historical and modern dimensions, and the ability to reflect on them scientifically. The courses cover topics in language and literary history from the Middle Ages to the present day, as well as their theoretical context. In addition, the culture, history, and regional studies of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden in particular are a focus of the study program.
