About the Program

The Mathematics teaching program aims to provide a professionally qualifying academic and practice-oriented didactic preparation for teaching at Gymnasium-level schools. The curriculum initially covers mathematical foundations from linear algebra, geometry, and analysis, accompanied by content on mathematical software. Advanced courses deepen knowledge in analysis, algebra, number theory, stochastics, and statistics, specifically tailored to the needs of the teaching profession. An elective module in the 9th semester allows for individual specialization. Depending on availability, students can choose from: function theory, nonlinear optimization, computer graphics, game theory, discrete optimization, graph theory, financial mathematics, numerics I, numerics basic practicum, or mathematical logic. Didactic methodology and social competence are taught in practice-oriented courses conducted in cooperation with gymnasiums. Overall, students acquire broad knowledge of mathematics and its teaching in the classroom. Students develop skills in mathematical thinking and argumentation, presenting mathematical content in appropriate oral and written form, applying didactic concepts and empirical findings from mathematics-related teaching-learning research to analyze student thinking, and competently using new media and appropriate software in teaching.
