About the Program

The aim of the degree programme is to provide students with solid training as professionally experienced, responsible chemistry teachers who are well prepared for teaching practice and able to plan and carry out modern experimental lessons independently. Students acquire fundamental scientific and didactic knowledge of chemistry in the fields of general, inorganic and analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, technical chemistry and the History of Chemistry. Mathematics and an internship in physics are also included. The program follows the Jena model, which includes a five-month school placement semester in the fifth or sixth semester. Students study two subjects of their choice, including subject didactics, with pedagogical qualification taking place in the educational sciences.
