About the Program

The aim of the study program is to achieve language level B2 (independent language use) according to the European Framework of Reference and comprehensive knowledge of Low German didactics in the sense of modern foreign language didactics. The teaching in Low German for primary school teaching is mainly carried out by the Competence Center for Low German Didactics at the University of Greifswald, with a focus on language acquisition by students and the didactics of Low German in the sense of modern foreign language didactics. The study consists of five modules with a strong practical orientation. Graduates will know relevant legal foundations of Low German teaching and current teaching materials. They will understand historical contexts, linguistic peculiarities, and current developments of the regional language Low German and possess comprehensive language awareness. They will be able to describe historical and current subject-didactic cross-language theories and basic concepts of foreign language teaching in primary schools and critically reflect on them in relation to Low German-specific goals, content, the use of suitable media and materials, and methods.
