About the Program

The research-oriented Master's program "Ibero-Romance Cultural Studies" (IRK) is aimed at students who want to broaden their horizons to include the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America in an international study environment. In addition to Spanish- and Portuguese-language media and socio-cultures, the course focuses on transatlantic relations between Europe, the Americas, and Africa, which are examined from both historical and contemporary perspectives, including (post-)colonial and (trans-)areal aspects. The program includes content such as history of language, ideas and (media) culture in Ibero-Romania, Ibero-Romance diversity, interculturality & pluricentricity, transatlantic relations, decolonial perspectives, and philological-based humanities approach. Special features include a semester abroad (3rd semester) with internship/project option and structured elective options in two elective modules (1st and 2nd semester) to enable students to acquire interdisciplinary skills.
