About the Program

General Studies is the third main subject in primary school alongside German and Mathematics. It builds on the children's world of life and experience and helps them to clarify and organize their observations. For this purpose, natural science phenomena are explored, as well as principles and forms of social coexistence. At the University of Greifswald, prospective teachers are trained with the aim of taking on the role of class teacher in the future. Although General Studies is an elective subject, it is recommended that all students take this subject as a third learning area. In 6 modules, they learn to make phenomena and problems of the social environment and the physical world accessible to children in an exciting way.
