Finno-Ugric/Hungarian studies - Bachelor of ArtsFinno-Ugric/Hungarian Studies

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

Fennistics is the study of Finnish language, literature, and culture. Greifswald is one of the most traditional centers for Fennistics outside Northern Europe. At the same time, Fennistics forms an important part of the university's Baltic Sea region focus. Fennistic degree programs are offered at both Bachelor's and Master's levels. There are intensive contacts with many Fennistic institutes at universities in Finland and Estonia. The economic and political integration processes in Europe and the world have contributed to strengthening German-Finnish contacts. In the fields of science and culture, media and tourism, and not least in the economy, there is a constant need for qualified Finland specialists who can mediate between cultures, institutions, and individuals. The study of the Bachelor's partial degree program in Fennistics imparts in-depth Finnish language skills and enables students to independently recognize literary-historical and linguistic problems, analyze them using scientific methods, and propose solutions on this basis. In close connection with linguistics and literary studies, regional and cultural studies prepare students to understand historical, geographical, political, and cultural contexts.
