About the Program

The Institute for English/American Studies offers training specifically tailored to primary school teaching in the subject areas of language skills, linguistics, literature and cultural studies of the Anglophone cultural area, as well as English didactics. The goal of the program is to acquire the necessary academic, foreign language and didactic prerequisites to be able to teach English competently and confidently to primary school students. This includes developing high language proficiency and acquiring application-oriented knowledge in English linguistics (e.g., second language acquisition or child language) and the literatures and cultures of Anglophone countries (with a focus on everyday cultures and children's worlds). A special emphasis is placed on the perception and handling of diversity in different contexts. Students must complete at least a three-month stay in an English-speaking country by the end of their studies.
