What questions are asked in the Studienkolleg entrance exam?
There is no nationwide Studienkolleg entrance exam. The KMK framework only requires you to prove, before admission, German good enough to follow the classes; each Land and each Studienkolleg decides what the test looks like.
Examples (not general rules)
- TU Berlin: German (four C-tests at B2 level) and maths (8–10 tasks in 60 minutes, no aids), roughly 1 hour per subject.
- Bavaria: the Studienkolleg runs the exam; German at least B1+/B2, plus maths for the T/M/W courses and the FH-Studienkolleg.
- Frankfurt (Goethe-Universität): only an electronic German C-test, and even DSH 2 does not get you out of it.
- Studienkolleg Mittelhessen (Marburg): a 35-minute online multiple-choice German test, no maths.
- Hamburg: no entrance exam at all; places are ranked by grade average and bonus points.
TestAS is not an exemption
A good TestAS result does not replace the Studienkolleg. A score of 100 is simply the average, not a threshold. No official source names any TestAS score that lets you skip the Studienkolleg; according to the HRK, a university may at most use TestAS as a bonus or weighting next to your school grade.
How to prepare
Work through the sample papers on your target Studienkolleg's official site for your course type (T, M, W, G, S). Dates, location and topics vary by institution.
