What is a Studienkolleg, and who is it mandatory for?

A Studienkolleg is a two-semester preparatory course that ends with the Feststellungsprüfung, the exam that lets international applicants without direct university access start a degree in Germany. It is not mandatory for every Turkish school leaver: your certificate, YKS result and placement decide.

#Who needs it

• Meslek Lisesi (vocational school) graduates with more than 180 YKS points go to a subject-oriented Studienkolleg. After one successful year of Lisans study in Türkiye, direct subject-restricted access opens instead.
• If you studied only one year at a 2-year MYO without a diploma, the Studienkolleg route leads to Fachhochschulen only.

#Who doesn't

• A 12-year general Lise, more than 180 points in SAY, SÖZ, EA or DİL, and placement in a Lisans programme of at least 4 years at a faculty give direct, subject-restricted access without a Studienkolleg.
• A completed Lisans of at least 4 years gives access to all subjects.

Without placement, or below the threshold, there is no general route and no automatic Studienkolleg. The university or the competent Land authority decides.

#Courses and the final exam

• University courses: T (technical, maths, sciences), M (medicine, biology), W (economics, social sciences), G (humanities, German studies, arts), S (languages).
• Fachhochschule courses: TI, WW, GD, SW, DÜ.
• You need proof of German before admission, and there is no entitlement to a place.
• The Feststellungsprüfung covers German plus two course subjects and can be repeated once. Passing it at a Fachhochschule Studienkolleg gives no university access.
