About the Program

The goal of this Master's partial degree program is to impart cultural studies, regional studies, and language competence for the Christian Orient. Students should be enabled to work independently with sources in Christian Oriental languages (mainly Syriac, Armenian, Christian Arabic, often in connection with Greek). This is accompanied by intensive study of intellectual, literary, religious, and cultural history as well as the general history of the corresponding region. The study program imparts methods and fundamental content that enable historical and systematic understanding of problems and fields of knowledge in various areas and epochs of the Christian Orient.
