About the Program

In the Master's program in Business Mathematics, students acquire expertise in mathematics with a clear application to economics as well as social and population sciences. Three specialization directions are possible (Business Administration, Economics, and Demographics/Economics). Interesting problem areas include mathematical modeling and analysis of stock prices, insurance portfolios and random damage processes including the calculation of premiums and reserves, the investigation of statistical methods for determining relevant parameters from economic empirical data, and optimization problems in connection with business management. The majority of modules come from mathematics, such as analysis/numerics, optimization, and stochastics, with the latter representing a special focus in this program. Students also take modules from economics and population sciences depending on their specialization. The program includes a seminar and a professional internship that provides insights into possible future professional activities. The program concludes with a Master's thesis and its defense to obtain the Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree.
