Vor- und Frühgeschichtliche Archäologie [Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology]Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology is a cultural-historical science. It researches cultural history before the onset of written records and also the material culture of the Middle Ages. The aim of the study is to acquire basic archaeological competencies, i.e., fundamental scientific knowledge, methods, and working techniques based on selected thematic focuses. These include, in particular, the development and presentation of scientific questions as well as the ability to classify and interpret archaeological sources in their cultural and historical context, but also the understanding and linking of theoretical and methodological foundations. In this program, practical components have a high value: Close cooperation with museums and archaeological heritage management offers students opportunities for project and practice-oriented studies. The teaching program is enriched by numerous external lecturers from archaeological professional practice. A ten-day excursion is also an integral part of the studies.
