Urban Tree and Forest Management

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

This Master's programme focuses on urban forestry and urban tree management. In forests close to cities, income from forestry plays a subordinate role. Instead, the forest's recreational and protective functions as well as its positive effects on the health of the population characterize forest management. The programme teaches students to recognize different interests in urban forests and to integrate them into professional decision-making processes. Students acquire skills in urban silviculture, care and development of urban green spaces, ecosystem services of urban forests, urban and landscape planning, communication, facilitation and conflict management, human resources management, administrative structure, and political, social and operational control governance. This is the only Master's programme in Germany with this focus, featuring small semester groups (20 people), practice-oriented teaching, and reference to the latest research questions.
