Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program "Ethnolinguistik bedrohter Sprachen - Uralische Sprachen und Kulturen" (Uralic Studies) provides comprehensive knowledge of Finno-Ugric languages and literatures as well as their historical and sociocultural contexts. Beyond the "larger" languages Estonian, Finnish, and Hungarian, the program also focuses on "smaller" languages primarily spoken in the Russian Federation. During their studies, students can specialize by choosing a profile area either in the description of cultures of Uralic peoples or in the diverse manifestations of Uralic languages in Europe and Asia, some of which are endangered. The program offers the opportunity to deepen studies at a partner university in Europe (e.g., Tartu, Jyväskylä, Debrecen, Vienna, Padua, Paris, Budapest, or Szeged).
