About the Program

The programme conveys extensive knowledge of the Turkish language, in-depth knowledge of Persian and fundamental knowledge in the areas "Descriptive Linguistics", "Islam" and "The Culture of Turkey". The objective of the programme is to prepare students for the Master's programme in Turkish Studies and as well as for a scientific/academic occupation. In addition, the Bachelor's programme prepares students for work in non-university fields of occupation. With good knowledge of the Turkish languages and culture, the programme offers students the possibility to become familiar with different working fields, such as in the field of media, culture or diplomacy. Stays abroad and language classes are not mandatory. The department staff, however, is happy to help you organize language stays in Turkey and other Turkish speaking countries, if desired. The BA is designed to convey language competencies, cultural knowledge, subject-specific methods as well as to enable students to understand and interpret the cultural, social and political relations in the Turkish speaking world.
