About the Program

Toxicology is the science of the harmful effects of chemical substances on living organisms, especially humans. The study content includes classical toxicological disciplines as well as in-depth courses in biochemical and molecular biological analytics, biostatistics, and chemical analytics. Central components of this application and practice-oriented program include insights into the toxicological areas of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry plus a multi-week internship in companies in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry, a university research internship, and a six-month experimental master's thesis. The curriculum is supplemented by lectures and seminars from external lecturers from industry and research. The first semester is dedicated to the basics in the fields of general toxicology, pharmacology, laboratory animal science, and pathology. In the biochemical-toxicological practical course, students learn general biochemical analysis methods. In the second and third semesters, theoretical and practical knowledge in toxicology is deepened. The elective area provides for an expansion of knowledge in biochemistry, natural product chemistry, or mass spectrometry. For the free module, events from the departments of social sciences and economics are recommended. The final module in the fourth semester includes the master's thesis and a presentation.
