About the Program

The study of Systematic Musicology aims to enable students to engage in independent, critical, socially responsible, and creative scientific work in the disciplines of the subject. The focus of the subject is on the physical, psychological, biological, and anthropological foundations of music. During their studies, students acquire knowledge of scientific methods in systematic musicology, acoustics, psychoacoustics, and music psychology. In addition to the focus areas of acoustics and music psychology, students can deepen their knowledge in the areas of music sociology, popular music research, music ethnology, empirical aesthetics, and music and market during their studies. Through an internship during their studies, students gain insights into possible fields of work for musicologists. They benefit from a large network of alumni who work in various areas of the media, audio, and music industry as well as in the cultural sector, and can connect the content learned in their studies with practical experiences.
