Supplementary Subject Art History

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

Art history may sound old-fashioned, but it's not. After all, the subject has long since ceased to deal solely with the "Old Masters". Today, art history sees itself as part of an interdisciplinary visual science that takes into account the importance of the visual in our world. The visual world of the media is therefore now just as much a part of the subject area as popular culture and the varieties of international contemporary art. The supplementary subject aims to profitably combine the traditional content of the subject with contemporary perspectives. It aims to impart knowledge of the epochs, genres and styles of Western art and to encourage students to independently analyze aesthetic phenomena. Basic skills in the field of visuality and visual history are taught. The basic training in art history covers the period from antiquity through the Middle Ages and modern times to modernity and the present.
