About the Program

The eight-semester 'International Bachelor's program in Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia' has three focus areas: 'Austronesian Languages and Cultures', 'Language and Culture of Thailand', and 'Language and Culture of Vietnam'. It offers in-depth knowledge of a main language of mainland or insular Southeast Asia (Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, or Vietnamese), with solid basic knowledge of a second language of the target region completing the linguistic profile. The main goal of the program is learning Southeast Asian languages and the competence to place them in their social, historical, and cultural context. The regional modules provide knowledge of regional studies, literatures, culture, and society of both traditional and modern Southeast Asia. During a one-semester stay abroad in the target region, students gain international experience, country knowledge, and communication skills.
