About the Program

The eight-semester 'International Bachelor's program in Languages and Cultures of India and Tibet' provides specialized knowledge of the languages, culture, philosophy, literature, religion, and society of the Indian subcontinent and Tibet. The regional connection between the Indian subcontinent and Tibet receives special attention. The main goal of the program is to acquire language skills (focusing on Sanskrit, Hindi, or Tibetan) and expertise on cultural and social developments in India and Tibet. The program is divided into two focus areas: Languages and Cultures of India, and Language and Culture of Tibet. An integral part of the program is acquiring in-depth or basic language skills in two chosen languages (depending on the focus, Sanskrit, Hindi, or Tibetan as the main language and one of these languages as the second language). A one-semester stay abroad in the target region offers students the opportunity to gain international experience, country knowledge, and intercultural and communication skills.
