About the Program

The field of speech and language therapy includes prevention, diagnostics and therapy of disorders in the areas of language, speech, voice, swallowing and hearing, as well as counselling for patients and their relatives. Speech and language therapists work with people of all ages. In this degree programme at Bochum University of Applied Sciences, students acquire two degrees in one: the academic degree of Bachelor of Science and the professional qualification as a state-recognised speech and language therapist. This dual qualification is a unique feature at a state university in Germany. The course focuses on the scientific examination of speech therapy topics and the transfer of theory into practice, as well as interprofessional skills. The program includes theoretical modules covering linguistics, medicine, psychology, pedagogy, and various speech and language disorders, as well as 2100 hours of practical training in the university's Teaching and Research outpatient clinic and external facilities.
