About the Program

The MA in Sociology gains its special profile from three components. Two core areas of the discipline are covered at an advanced, international level, namely sociological theories and quantitative and qualitative methods of empirical research. The program moreover focuses on the mediation of practical, research-based expertise and skills. In a two-semester research module, students acquire in-depth knowledge of all phases of the empirical research process. The program structure includes two basic modules covering sociological theories and research methods, a two-semester research module, and specialization in a specific field of sociology with options including business and organizational sociology, theoretical approaches to international comparative sociology, scientific theory and advanced methods, theories on society and environment, methods of theory analysis, and cultural sociology. Career prospects include doctoral studies and academic careers, as well as roles in public administration, associations, private sector, urban planning, public relations, and market research.
