Sozialökonomie [Socioeconomics]Socioeconomics

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

Socioeconomics deals with the social consequences of economic actions and the societal influences on economic activities. The scientific approach of socioeconomics characteristically addresses the interactions between economy and society by linking sociological, economic, and legal issues. Therefore, the study program is designed interdisciplinarily and includes the subjects of Business Administration, Law, Sociology, and Economics. Students first acquire basic knowledge in all subjects. Only in the second year of study do they decide on a major subject in which they also earn their bachelor's degree. The other subjects accompany the studies in the major subject in the form of an interdisciplinary supplement. About 300 students are admitted each semester. Up to 40 percent of places are reserved for applicants without a high school diploma who have, for example, passed a subject-related entrance examination. A large proportion of students go abroad as part of a university partnership; some partnership agreements enable simultaneous graduation at the University of Hamburg and in the respective partner university's bachelor's program.
