Social Sciences

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The Bachelor's program in Social Sciences is a combined program of Political Science and Sociology. It provides fundamental theoretical and empirical knowledge about politics and society, with a focus on Germany and Europe. Students learn, for example, what characterizes a strong democracy, or why social inequality exists and how it affects all our lives. Students learn both qualitative and quantitative empirical social research methods. This gives them the necessary tools to conduct interviews and interpret statistics. The program enables students to analyze political and social conditions and apply social science explanatory models to pressing problems in our society - such as sustainability or eroding social cohesion. Supplementary courses from related disciplines such as history, psychology, or economics and educational sciences allow students to look beyond their disciplinary boundaries. Students can also acquire language certificates and complete part of their studies at a foreign partner university.
