About the Program

The Social Science teaching specialisation (Civic Education) is a combination of Political Science, Sociology and Economics. Students deal with basic economic and sociological knowledge and acquire an understanding of the elementary connections between politics and economics. The central subject is Political Science with core areas of political theory and history of ideas, domestic politics and Germany's political system, international relations and foreign policy, comparative politics and didactics of politics. Subject areas of Sociology include family, youth, socialisation, social structure, social change and work, industry and organisation. Economics deals with the theories of the economic development of the market and competition and the main features of economic policy. The standard period of study is ten semesters with a total of 300 credit points (ECTS). The program includes a five-month school placement semester in the fifth or sixth semester.
