About the Program

The Social science teaching specialisation is a combination of Political Science, Sociology and Economics. Students deal with basic economic and sociological knowledge and acquire an understanding of the elementary connections between politics and economics. The central subject is Political Science with core areas of political theory and history of ideas, domestic politics and Germany's political system, international relations and foreign policy, comparative politics and didactics of politics. Subject areas of Sociology include family, youth, socialisation, social structure, social change and work, industry and organisation. Economics deals with theories of economic development of the market and competition and main features of economic policy. The knowledge and skills acquired enable students to discuss, assess and communicate theoretical problems of politics as well as issues of domestic and foreign policy scientifically and to sensitise students to the everyday relevance of political issues.
