Slavistik [Slavic Studies]Slavic Studies

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program 'Slavic Studies' offers students the opportunity to engage with two Slavic languages or literatures from either a linguistic or literary perspective. Russian, Polish, Serbo-Croatian or Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, and Czech can be chosen as languages. The first language must already be mastered, while the second language can be newly learned during the study (or existing knowledge can be deepened). Central subjects of Slavic linguistics are the analysis of structures and functions of the chosen Slavic languages in both their oral and written forms. Approaches from general linguistics and cognitive science are also considered. A focus of Slavic literary studies is the ability to analyze texts with well-founded methodological knowledge and interpret them in their historical, political-social, and aesthetic context. The program places special emphasis on the acquisition of presentation techniques and rhetorical competencies to appropriately present one's own work results. There is also the opportunity to participate in an exchange program with universities in St. Petersburg, Belgrade, Zagreb, Prague, or Warsaw.
