Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The program offers students an intensive introduction to the nature and specifics of at least two Slavic languages, literatures, and cultures. Students can choose from Polish Studies, Russian Studies, and South Slavic Studies. The program provides in-depth academic and linguistic competencies, skills, and knowledge in dealing with exemplary subjects from the history and present of the chosen Slavic languages, literatures, and cultures, active and passive text competence, and scientific expressiveness. The Slavic studies in Halle look back on a long tradition since the 17th century. Already in the winter semester 1697/98, Russian language instruction was offered at the University of Halle (only four years after its founding in 1694), making it the first university in Germany where Russian was taught as a scientific discipline.
