About the Program

The Typography Design program focuses on the practical exercises in writing and drawing to develop basic knowledge about the form, function, and history of Latin script. Students design texts (calligraphy), lettering, alphabets, and character systems. The program aims to discover, develop, and present design principles of typography based on writing-based form understanding and free experimentation. Typical works include writing sheets, fonts, logos, posters, and digital fonts. The program covers typography history and classification through both theoretical lectures and practical exercises. Students can design their own font or font family, digitize and produce it. The focus is set individually and can be in areas such as conception for specific applications, development of different cuts, alternative letters, ornamental letters, icons, symbols, and (OpenType) programming. The course belongs to the Typography and Book Design department and is open to students from all departments and teaching areas.
