About the Program

The Art History minor provides both fundamental and in-depth knowledge in painting, sculpture, architecture, graphics, arts and crafts as well as the intermedia forms of modern and contemporary art movements. The academic emphasis is on the origin, appearance, function and effect of works of late antique to contemporary art from Europe and (from the 16th century onwards) America. Students learn basic methods for analysing and interpreting works of art. The minor degree offers a variety of subjects with an emphasis on the arts and cultural sciences. After graduation, expertise in visual arts, architecture, arts and crafts and intermedia forms of modern art opens up career prospects in various fields, including museums, collections, archives, art consulting, art trade, building research, monument preservation, cultural management, education, tourism, creative industries, publishing, and specific sectors of commercial enterprises.
