The objective of the programme is to acquire thorough expertise and the ability to work in accordance with scientific methods, to master the varied demands of professional life in applied practice, research or teaching, and to deal effectively with the frequently changing tasks that arise in the working world. Professional expertise is built in the fields of safety and hazard defence. Graduates possess specific knowledge pertaining to fire, disaster and civil protection, environmental protection, pollution control, cargo protection, explosion protection, safety management, occupational and industrial safety, post-fire investigations and risk analysis. Core subjects include computing, mathematics, English, physics, chemistry, environmental protection, principles of structural engineering, structural design, fundamentals of electrical engineering, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural fire protection, process engineering, fundamentals of fire protection, psychology, law and hazard defence, technical risks, and various free-choice subjects. The program includes a placement semester or basic training semester with the fire service in semester 6.
