About the Program

The Romance Linguistics program provides comprehensive knowledge in the analysis and description of two Romance languages (selectable: French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan), their structures and functions. Special consideration is given to areas such as language acquisition research, language teaching research, cognitive linguistics, contact linguistics, language typology, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, language psychology, empirical linguistics, and media linguistics. There is the possibility of individual specialization in the areas of 'Structure of Romance Languages' (more theoretically oriented) or 'Language Development and Language Variation' (more empirically oriented). The program is complemented by practical language training. In the research area, students benefit from participation in the faculty's focus on 'Multilingualism'. There are also various exchange programs, including with universities in Madrid, Barcelona, Lyon, Bordeaux, Pisa, Rome, and Mexico City. The program is structured into three areas: Compulsory area (four mandatory modules on central aspects of phonology, morphology, and syntax of Romance languages), Profile area (specialization in one of two focus areas), and Elective area (modules and courses from the Faculty of Humanities). The final semester includes a colloquium, master's thesis, and oral final examination.
