RomanistikRomance Studies

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The Romance languages, which evolved from Latin, form a language group widely spread across almost all continents. At the University of Halle, a large area is covered with French, Spanish, and Italian. In the partial degree program Romanistik 120 LP, students choose two of these three language domains and study their languages, literatures, and cultures - even beyond the borders of the European mother countries. Focus areas include Spanish-speaking regions in Latin America and Francophone regions of the Caribbean. Since Italy was only politically unified at the end of the 19th century and has a less pronounced past as a colonial power, the focus of the Italian language domain is more on one country. The goal is an intensive scientific introduction to the basics, specifics, and diversity of language, literature, and culture in two of the three language domains: French, Spanish, and Italian.
