About the Program

The Master program Romance Language and Cultural Areas is particularly characterized by its cross-cultural concept, which focuses on the variety of cultural areas in the Romance language-speaking world, its history and its interconnectedness. In addition to teaching content and methods that qualify students to analyze and compare the variety of cultural, literary and linguistic phenomena, both historically as well as in their current manifestations, particular emphasis is also placed on independent project work. The program is interdisciplinary and includes linguistic, literary and cultural studies content in comparative perspectives. An essential component is the study of at least one Romance language, whereby French, Italian or Spanish can be studied as an area of specialization. In addition, there is a profile area, in which additional Romance languages – e.g. Catalan, Portuguese and Romanian – can be studied, or offerings chosen from other institutes and subject areas.
