About the Program

The Master of Arts in Romance Cultures in the Modern World is designed to deepen and expand students' knowledge and skills concerning the languages and cultures of regions in which Romance languages are spoken. Students will learn to work independently and in an interdisciplinary manner. Most students select two Romance languages upon which to focus their studies, though a three-language option is also available. Moreover, students may choose whether to specialise in linguistics or literature studies. The Department of Romance Studies at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena is one of the few institutes in Germany that offer the full spectrum of major Romance languages (Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, and Romanian).
