Quality Journalism in Digital Media

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Digital Quality Journalism trains journalists with digital competence who can recognize and develop innovations and shape the future of journalism. Against the background of the blurring boundaries of communication through the internet, the changed perception of the profession in society, and new digital distribution channels, there is a need for journalistic professionals who are familiar with the challenges of digitalization as well as with the competencies of analyzing and reflecting quality journalism. The program is application-oriented: scientific findings and methods are transferred to professional practice to develop professional and high-quality digital journalism. The master's program builds consistently on the tradition of the bachelor's program in Journalism and Public Relations at Westfälische Hochschule. The program includes large project modules in both the scientific and application-oriented journalistic segments. The study concludes with a practical semester in media houses, production companies, or journalistic start-ups. In the third semester, students complete a dual master's thesis: a scientific thesis and an equivalent practical work.
