About the Program

The Portuguese Bachelor's program focuses on the Portuguese-speaking world (Lusophonie). Students become specialists in Portuguese-speaking countries and regions across Europe, America, Africa, and Asia. The program covers Portuguese language acquisition, literature, culture, and history of Portuguese-speaking countries. Students learn to read, understand, and interpret Portuguese texts while developing intercultural competence. The program examines how language, identity, politics, and history influence each other in Portuguese-speaking societies. No prior knowledge of Portuguese is required as students can learn the language from the beginning at JGU. This is exclusively offered as a secondary subject (Beifach) in the dual-subject Bachelor's program.
