About the Program

The main focus of Political Science is, on the one hand, on political institutions such as the government, parliament, the judicial system, political parties, international organisations, and the administration (polity); on the other hand it is concerned with conflicts of interest and the power mechanisms which determine political processes (politics), and finally with the political contents and programmes in individual fields of politics (policy). The aim of the program is to provide students with comprehensive academic and career-oriented knowledge of political fields (e.g. social policy, environmental policy, European policy), political institutions and political processes on the national, European and international levels. Besides studies in political science, the degree course encompasses studies in law, economics and empirical methods of social research. The topics covered in the field of political science include an introduction to the social sciences and the governmental system of the Federal Republic of Germany, political theory, international relations, comparative political science and european integration, as well as policy analysis.
