About the Program

The four-semester Master's program "Political Management, Public Policy and Public Administration" offered by the Institute of Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen aims at providing both scientifically sound and practice-oriented training. It imparts competencies for problem analysis and solution, combined with knowledge of appropriate organizational, communication and governance techniques. The program prepares students for leadership positions in ministries, associations, institutions, parties, and non-governmental organizations, with a focus primarily on national, regional, and municipal levels. The curriculum consists of mandatory and elective components (Orientation Knowledge Political Management). In the mandatory area, students acquire theoretical knowledge about political management and governance, public administration and administrative structures, political communication, and scientific and professional key qualifications. The knowledge acquired during the studies is practically tested and further developed in different professional fields. In the elective area, students can select and study additional core competencies of the Institute of Political Science outside the curriculum of the MA Political Management, interdisciplinary organized courses from other faculties, additional offerings from the NRW School of Governance, or deepen existing content of the program (e.g., policy research, political communication, administrative sciences).
