Physics

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

Physics is a scientific discipline that explores the universe from its very largest cosmological scale to the sub-nuclear scale of elementary particles, from the synthetic materials of solid-state physics and materials science to the living systems in biophysics and medical physics. The Saarbrücken Master's program in Physics includes modules with experimental and theoretical focus. In their theoretical-physical education, students first acquire in-depth knowledge in quantum mechanics and static physics. In the experimental part, they work on advanced concepts in solid-state physics and atomic physics. The program includes research internships and work in research groups. The master's thesis deals with current problems in biophysics, soft matter, solid state physics, nanostructure physics or quantum technologies. The program prepares physicists for jobs in industry, research institutions or public institutions, with employment fields including research/development in natural and engineering sciences, biotechnology, environmental technology, energy technology, optics, medical technology, information technology, and strategic management consulting.
