About the Program

The Master of Education (MEd) in Philosophy/Ethics follows the Bachelor of Education (BEd) and complements teacher education for Lehramt Gymnasium. After earning the MEd, students can be admitted to the teacher traineeship ("Referendariat"). The program provides an understanding of theories and positions of classical and contemporary philosophers. Students discuss philosophical questions such as free will, moral norms, knowledge potentials, and relationships between language and reality. The curriculum includes insights into the history of philosophy and various sub-disciplines, developing skills in critical thinking, analysis, structured reading and writing, argument assessment, and independent argument development. In addition to subject-related content, students take classes in didactics and education. The master's programme usually takes four semesters to complete, with a total of 120 ECTS credits required.
